Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a studio in Downtown Dallas for swimwear client.

Time

It was in the afternoon. She was the first model for the day but had no makeup ready so in order to make up studio time, I thought of using a hat to make her feel comfortable.

Lighting

Lighting was simple strobe. One light to blow the background out since it was concrete. Simple yet effective.

Equipment

For gear I used Canon T2I with a 50mm and one strobe.

Inspiration

Client was wanting something fun and sensual. I wanted to bring in bold and since the model had a boring black suit, I added the colorful necklaces to bring a pop and lead your eye all over, along with the hat.

Editing

Nope! Mostly fix some blemishes other then that the photo as is.

In my camera bag

I have a Canon T2I with battery pack, multiple batteries, 50mm and 85mm lenses along with a polarizing filter just in case. I rather carry less gear but bring props. Planning ahead of shoot usually lets me think of what I need to bring so I don't have to worry to much about gear and instead more about the concept while shooting.

Feedback

Think of color theory and what makes you want to look at a picture. What keeps you coming back for more at an image. This is a straight forward shot on background. Plan everything, from wardrobe to accessories to props. Usually just one thing won't make the image work. Think of it like a movie or magazine cover. Effort is put into every detail. Otherwise, why waste the time on shooting in the first place.
