Location
This was taken in my living room. No room for a proper studio so I make do.Time
Afternoon I think. I was inside so it wasn't an issue. I actually wanted to eliminate any light from outside as it would throw off the silhouette effect.Lighting
Lighting was a regular incandescent bulb (75 watt?) placed under the table pointed towards the backdrop. The idea was to make it look like a sunset.Equipment
I used a Canon 40D on a tripod. And pirates; because everything is better with pirates.Inspiration
I wanted to make an animated gif file so set up some rocks, some pirates, and a little ship on a table with a white sheet for the background. I took several images with the ship moving "further away" from the pirates, they had been marooned on the island. This image is one of about seven.Editing
Post-processing was to put the images together and save as a gif. There may have been some darkening to get the silhouette. In my camera bag
Two cameras, Canon 40D and 60D. Standard zoom lens for each. Also a 75-300 zoom. Canon 580ex flash. Extra camera batteries and their chargers, extra AA for the flash. Flash cable to mount the flash away from the camera. Always take the tripod with and a tilt-mount with a bar above to mount the flash. I tend to use the flash even for outdoor shooting to fill in the shadows.Feedback
Something like this requires a tripod so you get the "same" picture with subtle movements. Using an incandescent lamp on a white backdrop with daylight balance gives it a golden glow.
