Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Florida, the first vacation we took together <3

Time

This photo was taken about an hour before sunset, so we could capture that beautiful golden hour lighting!

Lighting

I wanted a warmth and romantic feeling to the image-so shooting at the beach during sunset was pretty perfect.

Equipment

I used a canon 70d. I was shooting other images of the other families with us, then I set up my manual settings and told my mom how I wanted the image composed and she snapped it for me. A little better than a tripod and timer, I must say!

Inspiration

This was my boyfriend's first vacation with me, and with my family. I wanted a sweet photo together to capture the happiness from the trip, not just the typical smiling and looking at the camera. He offered to hold me-so we went for it!

Editing

Just minor photo shop adjustments to dehaze and remove unwanted background distractions.

In my camera bag

I have several lens, but 99% of the time I just use my camera body and my 50mm lens. I almost always end up shooting into the sun, so I have a UV filter at the end as well. But other than that, I don't use much else!

Feedback

When shooting on the beach, be careful about going straight from an air conditioned building, to straight outside in the humidity and heat. Your camera and lenses will quickly fog up and take a while to adjust back to normal. Also, when shooting outside at the beach, I highly recommend sunset or sunrise lighting, so there aren't harsh shadows. And when shooting during those times, it tends to look better to have people pose with their backs to the sun so they aren't squinting or getting too orange lighting on their skin. And, I always suggest saving your best poses for last, that way your models/clients have warmed up to the camera a bit more first!
