Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in a tunnel under the local railway line in Lippstadt, Germany.

Time

I cant remember the exact time, but it was lastwinter about 21,00 hrs

Lighting

I didn't have to do anything with the lighting mainly because of the graffitti and the moss on the walls wich gave the two lights in the tunnel a shade of green shimering from the walls. For what I had in mind this lighting couldn't be better.

Equipment

Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL on a tripod, f5,6 15 second exposure at 100 Iso.

Inspiration

I had been looking at photos of lightpainting with burning wirewool, and although they are great photos in great locations, they where still the normal photo of someone swinging burning wirewool around their head making circles with flying sparks. I wanted something different, less dramatic but more mysterious. So I got a long chain, attached the wirewool to the end and ignited it, then I pressed the button on my old faithfull (Canon 400d) and jogged through the tunnel pulling the chain behind me. I think the rusult speaks for it self!

Editing

The only post - processing I did was to sharpen it and darken it a little.

In my camera bag

It always varies what I have with me, My Canon 400d with the standard 18-55mm lens and my tripod a always with me. It really all depends on what I have in mind, for instance if I go into the woods or forest I would take my macro with me for insects and mushrooms and so on.

Feedback

If youre going to do this sort of photography its always good to have a friend with you just in case anything catches fire. A fire extingiusher or water. and of course protective clothing or clothing wich will not burn straight away as soon as a spark lands on it.
