Location
This is Milford Sound in New Zealand. My husband and I traveled down the west coast of the South Island and knew we had to go to Milford Sound when we saw photos of its beauty. Milford Sound is in the Fiordland National Park. We drove 3 hours to get there from Queenstown and it was the most beautiful drive I have ever taken. It literally was breath-taking as we went around each curve in the road. I couldn't imagine anything more gorgeous and then we arrived at Milford Sound where the beauty was amazing. It was a sunny day so we took a boat out through the sound all the way to the Tasman Sea. Being surrounded by the majestic mountains and powerful waterfalls made me feel as if time had stood still in this place. It was a highlight of our trip.Time
We arrived at Milford Sound in the afternoon and had reservations for the 3pm boat trip. It was the perfect time of day for our visit.Lighting
The sun was high in the sky as we started exploring the sound and as it dipped lower it cast beautiful shadows and reflections on the water.Equipment
I had a Canon EOS T1i with a couple lenses with me and took many photos with that camera all day, but towards the end of the day I took a few shots on my iPhone 6, such as this one.Inspiration
After spending several hours all around Milford Sound I was sad to leave all that beauty. I looked back and had to grab a few more shots as the sun was dipping lower. This photo was taken from the dock after we got off the boat. This is the iconic view of the sound and Mitre Peak but the lighting in this shot is much different than all the postcards and photos in travel books I've seen.Editing
I took a look at the photo in Photoshop and slightly decreased the brightness. In my camera bag

Take the shot. Even if you think the sun is in the way or its not the best lighting. Sometimes the result will surprise you.
