Location
I took this photo at my local state park, Lincoln Trail State park near Marshall IllinoisTime
The photo was taken in the afternoon.Lighting
It was natural lighting in the late afternoon.Equipment
The camera was a Nikon D5100, the lens was a Sigma 150-500. Also used a Ghilli suit to sit along the lake shore and not disturb the birds.Inspiration
Well i like to take some time and sit by the lake and observe the ducks and geese. This day there was lots of reflections form the fall foliageand not much wind leaving the water surface very smooth. I like to get action shoots of the geese flying. This goose happened to land close by giving me a good shot.Editing
I don't do much post-processing. I just cropped the photo, and adjusted the color levels a little in lightroom. In my camera bag
I now shoot with a Nikon D750, the autofocus is faster and more accurate with my 150-500 lens. When i go to the lake i typically have a monopod and a small portable stool to sit on while i wait for the birds to fly. I will also use a ghillisuit.Feedback
My advice is to get to know what the birds are doing. they usually have a schedule they stick to and after you figure that out you can decide where the best place to take a picuture will be.
