This photo was taken at the park beside my office job. I love the chance to get out and about from the office to get a leg stretch. The locals swans were nesting and I was along at every chance to see when the Cygnets were born, the day of this shot bore no Cygnets - Just a very serious looking Cob.Time
This photo was taken at lunch time, around 1:30pm. This sun was high in the sky and there was no wind, a perfect day.Lighting
All natural sunlight, the swans pose created enough slight shadow to help with the contrast of the image.Equipment
I used my canon 650d and a 70-300mm lens - The swans trust me but I still keep a respectable distance to avoid them becoming too trusting of humans.Inspiration
I enjoy sitting and watching the world go by as often as possible, the swans were the main inspiration of the shot - A lot of my self taught photography skills were due to these swans and myself wanting to capture the best possible images of themEditing
The photo was loaded into Adobe Photoshop for processing, I tweaked the raw image for colouring/exposure/contrast etc - An adjustment layer was added to allow me to convert the image to black & white while masking out the beak as I felt it really drew you in moreIn my camera bag
Nowadays it is my Canon 6D, 35mm f1.4 ii and 24-105mmFeedback
Keep a respectful distance from the animal in question and be patient - Also keep your other eye on your surroundings as the last thing you want is another swan/cygnets wandering close to you and penning you in a little - And for the shot itself be yourself, process the photo exactly as you want to see it - I tire of seeing these ‘We can teach you exactly how to take a better shot/process your shot perfectly”. Lessons/education are great but no replacement for getting out there and just learning on the go
