Behind The Lens
Location
I was having a stressful evening, and decided that the best way to shake it off would be to take a walk. I pulled on my sneakers and strapped my son in the stroller and took off. The path behind my house leads around this little lake, and it struck me as I was walking by.Time
It was just a few minutes after 5pm on a May evening. It was still several hours before sunset.Lighting
This isn't light that I would want in a portrait - the sun was still fairly high in the sky, but it created this great reflection on the quiet lake that I really loved.Equipment
I didn't have my big girl camera with me, but I really wanted to get the picture. I used my camera phone, since that's what I had on me, and I think the built-in wide angle lens was pretty perfect for this.Inspiration
I didn't even have my camera with me, and was not thinking about photography when I left the house this day. I was just struck by the perfect reflection and couldn't resist.Editing
No. I didn't touch this one in post.In my camera bag
Normally, all of my pictures have human subjects, so my gear is more focused on those. I normally pack my Canon 6D with an 85mm, 50mm and 70-200mm. I love the sharpness of the prime lenses but the versatility of the 70-200. I also typically have a speedlight, just in case I need to add a little light.Feedback
In many ways, this was a case of being in the right place at the right time. However, I think it really helped that I knew the area (and knew where to stand to avoid getting a picture of backyards and fences) and I was out and paying attention. I never would have gotten this photo if I hadn't been willing to stop and take it, even without the perfect equipment.
