Location
This photo was taken from the trail on the Lighthouse Loop of the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet, on the west coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia.Time
This is one of my favourite photos. I was out for my usual morning walk, and noticed how the waves were breaking on a reef, so I stopped to take a few pictures. The wind and tide were acting on the waves to twist them into fantastic shapes.Lighting
The photo was taken mid-morning in early December, 2014. The sun was rather low on the horizon, providing back lighting for the waves.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 60D to take this picture. It was a hand-held shot, using a Canon EFS 55-250mm zoom lens, with IS.Inspiration
Sometimes you're just in the right place at the right time, and on the day this photo was taken, I was just out for a walk and got lucky.Editing
I did some minor tweaks on this photo in Adobe Photoshop CS6, mainly just cropping and adjusting the levels and a bit of sharpening. In my camera bag
My camera bag consists of a Canon EOS 60D, and an 18-55mm and 55-250mm zoom lenses. I usually carry a Manfrotto monopod around with it, and on occasion, I'll bring a Manfrotto tripod along if I go out specifically to photograph something. Photography is a hobby for me, so I usually just grab the camera whenever I go out.Feedback
The edge of the Pacific Ocean is a great place to capture waves. Every day is different. The tide changes 4 times a day, and the ocean will take on different colours depending on the weather and the season. The thing to do is get to know the area that you are shooting in, so that you'll know the best time to get that perfect shot.
