This is a lovely photo, but doesn't meet challenge criteria of receiving a "Summer 2020" award from ViewBug and I removed it. Please check your Awards section and enter the photo that received the Summer 2020 award, Bee on white flower. Thank you, Kathy

Location
Went for a walk at Virginia Water Lake in Surrey, England. It's always a good spot to find ducks and often up close.Time
It was the weekend, and had a bit of a lie in, was about 11am by the time I took the picture.Lighting
It was a lovely sunny day, all natural lightlingEquipment
Had just got a second hand 300mm f2.8 lens prime, bought it out to try it out. Was mounted on a monopod just to take some of the weight, and my Canon EOS 7d.Inspiration
It was one of those days where I just needed to take some pictures, the new lens made birds an obvious choice, and living close to the lake decided it should be a mission to find a Mandarin duck, was a bit of a surprise to find one as quickly as I did, and this was the result.Editing
Wasn't much to do with this one, a bit of cropping, not much else.In my camera bag
My kit depends on what I'm planning to take pictures of, sometimes I will travel light and regret it, on the day I took this I had the 300mm f2.8 prime, a 100mm f2.8 macro lens, a ring flash and a monopod. Sometimes I regret the decision to travel light, and wish I had something else with me, but most of the time, it works out.Feedback
Finding the right light is critical, having a stable base to keep everything steady, and picking the spot where you have every chance to get close enough to the action.
