Location
The photograph was taking in a very simple setting that was placed in the living room by a window. I used a table and a stone coaster as the background and the window as my primary source of light.Time
This was taking around mid day. It was sunny out and I diffused the light so that it came across as soft; rather than the harsh light you typically get with the sun.Lighting
When doing photography, I love using natural lighting. For this particular shot, I wanted to really bring forth vibrant contrast between the dark background and the beautiful colour of the peppers. To do this, I used the curtains of the window to manipulate the light so that it subtly and softly spilt over the pepper, thereby giving a wonderful mood to the image. To go even further, the title of this image is "Wistful", meaning a feeling of longing. I wanted to help depict this particular feeling by creating negative space within the frame that was composed of cooler tones - wrapped around vibrant subject matter, representing a vague sense of thought and longing.Equipment
I used a Canon 70D to photograph this with a 50mm lens. It was on a tripod, and I did not use any artificial or flash lighting; I wanted the lighting to remain soft and natural.Inspiration
Food photography is one of my passions. I love photographing food and making it my goal to give both a mood to every image and to shine a new light on subject matter that is not commonly seen as art. When I sought out to the store to discover new subject matter, I found these tiny scotch bonnet peppers and I was immediately drawn to the colours on the peppers; how vibrant they were and how some of them faded into other colours. I wanted to photograph them in a way that really showed how vibrant they were.Editing
I was very pleased with the initial finished product of this image; however I did do some post-production to further help enhance the vibrance of the peppers, and to clone out some scratches or unpleasant lines that were found on the table. In my camera bag
As of right now, my go to equipment is my Canon 70D along with my Canon 24-70mm lens. I do also really love shooting with a 50mm lens.Feedback
While photographing food, I find that it is best shown and represented while using natural light. For me, this is how I am able to create nice tones, soft shadows and beams of light over my subjects. This helps to really create a beautiful feel to any image while depicting an emotion that can be felt by your viewers.
