Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in June 2015 at a local pond. I was looking to try and capture them skimming the water for food but after many failed attempts at that I spotted the babies in the tree waiting for them to return with food. So I waited for the mother to return.

Time

This was taken late on a warm Summers afternoon.

Lighting

All natural lighting with the Sun behind me.

Equipment

I used a Canon 700D with a Sigma 70-300 DG Lens

Inspiration

I had just bought myself a DLSR and was starting to get back into Photography after many years of using a Video Camera.

Editing

I only use a little after touch in Lightroom on most of my photos. I like to keep them as close to the original as possible.

In my camera bag

I'm very much a beginner so my bag is quite small. My 700D with the 18-55 kit lens, Sigma 70-300 DG and a Tamron 18-200 are the only 3 lenses I have, although there are a couple on my shopping list as I want a wide angle and macro lens next. I also carry a set of extension tubes and my spare 400D.

Feedback

I can only pass on advice I have been given by others when it comes to Nature Photography. Learn your subject ! That way you know what time of year and day and also what locations to use depending on what you want to capture.
