Location
I took this image on Fort Riley, Kansas.Time
This image was taken in mid afternoon. I was on my way to pick up my son from school when I noticed the smoke from the fire.Lighting
The lighting for this image was mid afternoon with smoke moving in and out of the area.Equipment
This was shot using a Canon Rebel t3i and a 17-85mm lens with no flash or other equipment.Inspiration
I was on my way to pick up my son from school when I noticed the smoke from the fire. I grabbed my camera and ran over to investigate the scene. Once I made sure the houses were evacuated I started taking pictures of fire and the first responders. I was able to capture many great images of the Fire Fighters putting out the fire.Editing
With this copy of the image I made minor exposure adjustments and converted it to black and white. In my camera bag
I carry my Canon 70D and Rebel t3i camera bodies along with a Tamron 150-600mm, Canon 17-85mm, 18-135mm, 70-300mm, and 50mm lenses. I also carry several filters, extra batteries, memory cards, pen, paper, and a flashlight.Feedback
The biggest piece of advice I can offer is to make sure you are not in the way of the fire fighter crew and other first responders as you capture the scene. There is a lot of chaos. There are many things to capture during a scene like this. You can capture the fire, the fire fighters, the equipment, or the crowd reactions.
