Behind The Lens

Location

On the morning of Memorial day I was invited to go out on a boat ride to photograph the U.S. Brig Niagara. I of course accepted the offer! So we went out on Lake Erie to capture the Brig in Sail.

Time

This was taken late morning along the shores of Lake Erie. Not sure of what I would get I captured every an I could in hopes that something would turn out. I was a very foggy morning.

Lighting

The lighting was not great, it was a cloudy overcast very foggy morning. But what I captured that morning turned out excellent!

Equipment

I shot this with my old camera the Sony a150 with my 300 mm sony lens.

Inspiration

I have a love for tall ships and the U.S Brig Niagara is a beautiful ship! A historical beauty! and a Local piece of history for Erie, Pa

Editing

I did do post processing in Lightroom turning the image to sepia and then added Perry Monument behind the fog as the Brig traveled through the channel coming back in to port

In my camera bag

I generally carry my 70-300mm, my 16-100mm and my 26-50mm are my go to lenses. along with my filters, neutral density and polarizer are always with me. My bounce flash is always on hand along with my release in case I need it. with of course my tripod. lens cloth and wipes are always on hand as well with many extra batteries.

Feedback

The tall ships or any type of sail boats really photograph best on overcast days to be honest due to the sails and not blowing them out. you can get a great amount of detail when the hot sun is not shining down on them. getting the right angel is very important while shooting the tall ships because it brings out the majestic sides of them.
