Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on my front porch while my son was playing with a magnifying glass. It was one of those candid moments that had no setup or perpetration.

Time

The photo was taken late afternoon.

Lighting

Was taken in full sunlight with no flash.

Equipment

I used my Canon Rebel xti.

Inspiration

We were sitting on the front porch and my son picked up the magnifying glass and started acting silly. I happen to have my camera handy and thought what a shot. It was just a spontaneous moment which really brought out the personality and youthfulness of my son.

Editing

I used photoshop to post-process my photo. I used a filter called Lucis Art and used some dodging and burning to finally get the look I was trying to achieve.

In my camera bag

I normally have two lenses, one 35 mm and a zoom. A mini tripod comes in handy as well as extra batteries.

Feedback

Spontaneous photos of your kids are always better if not staged. Try and capture their innocence and youthfulness. Keep an eye on the basics such as rule of thirds and composition. Sometimes a bad picture can become a masterpiece if it is cropped and shopped.
