Weißensee, The highest mountain lake in Carinthia

The Weißensee was almost completely frozen when we visited just 8 weeks ago. Now it is looking rather wetter and much deeper.

I am standing on a jetty at about the narrowest part of the lake where the banks are precipitous tree covered cliffs and the gloriously green water dives to 90m depth just a short distance from the bank. It is rather more reminiscent of a Norwegian fjord than an Alpine lake.
