This image was taken at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, in Abu Dhabi. I was visiting with a friend and we had been at the mosque for most of the afternoon shooting where permitted. Just as we were preparing to pack up, these two ladies appeared in the scene.Time
It had been a long but great afternoon shooting wherever possible at the mosque, I had moved outside for the "magic blue hour", and as it was time to leave this scene appeared. The two ladies silhouette providing a great focal point amongst the arches.Lighting
To get this image, i utilised the lighting from the Mosque itself. I really loved how the water had turned dark, echoing the building and night sky, then the brightly lit interior giving great definition to the arches and providing a perfect reflection made it all come together.Equipment
This image was taken on my Nikon D800 with the great 16-24mm wide angle. I had the camera set at f4 due to the low light and on my trusty tripod!Inspiration
The building inspired me, it is so majestic and has such a calming sense to it. Seeing it lit up and the serenity of its reflection in the water i just had to get a good shotEditing
The image is preety much SOOC a little tweak in LR only as it was shot rawIn my camera bag
What's in my bag, really depends on where I am headed or what I plan to shoot. These days its my Nikon D850 that is first in, followed by the all round lens the 24-70mm 2.8. Its such a versatile travel, portrait allrounder. Then the 105mm 2.8 another great lens that is so versatile from portraits to macro, I just love its clarity! After those two lenses my Thinktank bags are filled with NISI filters, lensbaby composer and more nikon glassFeedback
If you are in Abu Dhabi, the Mosque is a must! Give yourself plenty of time to really absorb the atmosphere and if you can stay late, the tourists disappear and the building seems be even more majestic as the light fades. Of course you must at all times be respectful, as in any place of worship, and if unclear just ask one of the guards and they will advise you on what is allowed.
