Great find. A waterfall of red.

Behind The Lens

Location

I went down to London to view the poppies installation and stayed overnight nearby. Early in the morning I headed out to get some photos before the crowds arrived. The sun was just catching the Tower and the light was beautiful.

Time

This was around 7am - before all of the tourists and commuters had arrived.. was so peaceful, which made the installation of the poppies all the more poignant.

Lighting

The sun was just coming up and the rays were catching the Tower and casting some lovely shadows

Equipment

This was shot hand held using a Canon 450D

Inspiration

It was such an amazing installation, and something I was unlikely to get another chance to see so I wanted to try and capture it.

Editing

Just a little balancing of the image and bringing out the red a bit... and cropping it down from a larger image to make the poppies coming out of the window the real focal point.

In my camera bag

I always have the standard 18-55mm lens, along with a wide angle and a telephoto lens 70-200mm I also have my iPhone handy for those immediate shots when I can’t quite get my camera out in time!

Feedback

Getting out early and avoiding the crowds was the best idea I’d had.. have me time to really take on the whole installation and decide what and how I wanted to photograph without being rushed or jostled about. Made it a far more enjoyable experience.
