Since the sun was so high and I was so new at photography I decided to turn this into a black and white image. I was thrilled how it turned out since the sun was so harsh in the color image. I was visiting Botany Bay on Edisto Island in SC with my family. Every photograph I take is a new window of opportunity to turn it into something special. This is definitely one of those.Time
When we got up this particular morning and decided where we were going to spend the day, it wasn't until mid morning, close to 12:00 noon before we arrived. We wanted to walk along the beach and take photos of the trees that laid along the shore and this one seemed to call my name.Lighting
I really cannot share to much about how I visioned this photo. I love the colors of the sea, the foamy look to waves and the sand is dark there. I knew what I saw in the lens but it did not come out that way when I saw the raw image on my screen. After seeing it on the screen was the turning point of making it a black and white image. I am pleased with how it turned out.Equipment
I was using a Canon Rebel T3. My camera was still very new to me at the time. I was playing with filters too. This was a hand held shot.Inspiration
As I stated earlier, this lonely tree just seemed to call my name and the other trying laying down was the leading line bonus to the tree.Editing
Just manipulating colors using GIMP at the time. It was a free tool. I had this photo all kinds of colors before deciding on what it is.In my camera bag
I remember this day pretty well because we had seen other photographers photos of this beach and we could not wait to experience it ourselves. When I say we, I am talking about my husband and me. His name is Cliff and he inspires and encourages me everyday to be better than I was the day before. He's always seen my love for photography so everything I own in my bag, he has bought for me. I love him so much for that. that day I carried a oversized backpack with a kit zoom lens, an 18-55 kit lens and filters that came with camera. Oh, and a cleaning cloth to keep wiping the sea spray off the lens. Today I have so much more than that as I have learned about prime lens and I use a tripod occasionally too.Feedback
My advice is to keep taking pictures. Even if you photograph the same thing 10 times while you're looking at. Take different angles or lay down and look up. Once you get your raw image on the screen, play around with the colors until you see what you saw in your minds eye as you took the photograph. Happy picture taking!!!
