Time

taken in the morning around 11.00 am when the light was right where the kingfisher dived,

Lighting

I had to have good light so I could get a high shutter speed to capture the bird in flight back to the perch

Equipment

Nikon D4, Nikon 300mm F2.8 VR 2 Lens, remote shutter release

Inspiration

I had seen a few in flight kingfisher shots in magazines and was in awe of them, I had plenty of perch shots but no diving ones

Editing

I used Nikon NX 1 to process my shot

In my camera bag

in my bag is a Nikon D4, plus back up Nikon D7001, Nikon 300mm F2.8 VR 2 lens plus Nikon 1.7 converter, and a Nikon 70 -200mm VR 1 lens

Feedback

to capture kingfishers in flight you need at least 3,200 sec shutter speed to get a sharp image, I upped the ISO to 2,500 at F8, and had the Sun behind the camera which enabled this
