I took this pic on Moreton Bay, Queensland, a few days after I bought my new cameraTime
I was bouncing around on my friends boat mid afternoon, the breeze had come up and the bay was very choppy. as we approached the South Passage i shouted out to slow down a bit, but they didn't hear or didn't care, so I upped the shutter speed and hoped for the best.Lighting
Luckily it was a nice bright day, so the higher shutter speed on my zoom lens allowed me to grab a couple of nice shotsEquipment
Shot on a Sony NEX-6 with a 55-210 zoom, hand held as we raced past the shipInspiration
having a new camera, I was keen to take pics of anything and everything, but this pic was one of the most pleasing of the day. I also took some very nice images of the Tangalooma wrecks which you can see on mybeadyeye and myeyesoul(flickr)Editing
I am not sure i could duplicate the processing if I tried! Apart from the new camera I had just purchased Lightroom and was just trying all these new settings and filters i had never seen before. I stumbled across the split toning feature and bang! I had the basis of the pic i wanted! In my camera bag
I carry my camera in a small bag with the 2 lenses that came with camera. they are always in my car, and is the only equipment i own apart from a tripod which is never in my car, especially when I seem to want or need it!Feedback
I have great plans for new cameras and other equipment like ND filters, which I never get around to buying. I think the thing i am learning as a result is that i am taking better pics than i used to with the same gear - using what i have got better and thinking about the shot more. Seems like i am the limitation, not my equipment! Sadly, this camera is starting to deteriorate and i will have to learn a new one, but this shot, for me with my inexperience, shows me that just thinking about the situation and what the camera can do can produce good results
