Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the Boundary Bay Airshow (Boundary Bay, B.C. Canada) at which I had received a press pass to enter the grounds earlier than the public.

Time

Since I was wandering around as everyone was setting up before the official opening this photo was taken early in the morning. The wind was howling and there were some concerns about whether it was safe to put on the show. These were the VIP tents.

Lighting

As it was a cloudy blustery morning, the diffused light was perfect.

Equipment

I had my monopod but the wind was too strong to use so I braced myself against a pole using my Canon 70D.

Inspiration

The drama of the wind, tents, flags, and clouds called to me. So I looked for a good composition of three and found this image.

Editing

By changing the image to black and white I felt it added more drama and added a HDR preset

In my camera bag

Since I recently had my camera and best lens stolen I am starting over. I now have a Canon 80D and some experimental lens that I have borrowed.

Feedback

I went to the Airshow thinking that I would be able to take colourful shots of airplanes against a blue sky with puffy clouds. Instead the weather changed and I had to look for other ideas. Don't be afraid to change directions when the opportunity arises. This became my favourite shot of the day.
