Location
This photo was taken 45 minutes outside of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the city in which I live. The actual corral is located in the middle of prairie farm land used for either cattle or grain crops.Time
The photo was taken mid afternoon on a sunny day with many interesting cloud formations.Lighting
I noticed the large billowing clouds and wanted to include them in a composition. The exposure of both the clouds and the foreground actively ws not possible to capture due to the at least 4 stop difference. I had been photographing for several hours and had plenty 8f good "standard" cattle branding images. I decided to try to get a silhouette of the h8rses and cowb8ys by exposing f8r the cl8uds. As the photos were of actual work being done I could not direct any of the action and had to just wait for moments that were graphic enough to make sense in silhouette.Equipment
For this photo I used a Canon 5D Mark lll with a 24-105mm lens!Inspiration
My inspiration came from both the clouds and the bold graphic nature of he cowboys and horse's.Editing
In post processing I had to darken a few areas of the silhouette to get a solid black. In my camera bag
I carry two Canon bodies, one with a 70-200mm f2.8 and the other with a 24-105mm f4 lens. This gives me the range of view I need to capture both close and wide subject matter.Feedback
When working in cattle patures, watch your step, that soft and mushy stuff on the ground is not chocolate!
