The Tiger Moth participating in the flying display, G-ADXT, was built in 1935 and delivered to the Reid and Sigrist Flying School in Desford. In January 1941 it was requisitioned by the RAF for training duties and given the serial BB860. Some six months later it was involved in a collision on the ground and withdrawn from use for repairs. After the war it passed to the Christchurch Aero Club in around 1950 but was little used and ultimately purchased by one of their instructors who undertook the long process of rebuilding it, not re-emerging until 1979 when it had its second ‘first flight’.
