Behind The Lens

Location

I took this at a shopping mall in Australia with my iPhone.

Time

This one was around lunchtime/early afternoon (that light streaming through the stained glass window was amazing!).

Lighting

With stained glass windows, the time of day can have such an effect on the light coming through. I just wanted a riot of colour so I made sure to get it at peak sun coming through. However, this could've been quite pretty at sunset.

Equipment

iPhone only, baby! Am a big believer in having some form of camera on you at all times, preferably in your hand ready to go to capture the moment. Unfortunately, DSLR's can be a bit bulky whereas having the iPhone is super convenient.

Inspiration

I was in a shopping mall in Australia just minding my own business and probably spending far too much money when I noticed the most incredible light patterns on the floor and walls. I looked up and saw this beauty. While I'm always a big believer in making sure to slow down and try to get different angles on things to get the best possible photos, this was the photo that convinced me to always make sure to always look right up (as well as looking down and looking incredibly close).

Editing

Some minute tweaking within loading the image to instagram as I wanted to punch the colours up just a tiny bit more. Nothing apart from that.

In my camera bag

On actual photography expeditions, just my DSLR and a couple of lenses. Otherwise, it's just my iphone in its Mophie battery case (seriously, cannot recommend those brand of charge cases enough if you're an avid mobile photographer like me).

Feedback

Basically just always make sure to take your time. Don't be afraid to just spend some time looking around noticing things. My friends/family know that if they go out with me, I'm always going to be the person who ends up walking miles behind them because I've gotten distracted by an amazing stained glass window or some cool clouds or an amazing skyline. They tolerate because I'm the one who comes up with the great shots ;)
