Behind The Lens

Location

A took it on a game drive, on a private game reserve in South Africs called Nambiti. I was staying at the Ndaka safari lodge. We were out on the second game drive of the day. It was late July and we were looking for the lions on the reserve

Time

It was near sunset, about half past five in the afternoon. It was winter so the sun sets a lot earlier. The air was becoming sharp and started stinging my nose from the cold. If you are going to the bush in winter it is very important to pack the correct clothing.

Lighting

There was not much light coming through as we're we behind a very large hill and the sun was setting.

Equipment

I used a Canon Eos 700d with a Tamron 18-270mm lens. No tripod or anything else

Inspiration

The lions looked so fierce, they were so close to the game vehicle and you could sense the power. This was the alpha male and was in charge of the other three lions that were sleeping around him.

Editing

Yes, I bumped up the clarity and contrast and made sure that the shadows were exposed properly and that the highlights were not over exposed

In my camera bag

I usually carry my Canon Eos 700d along with my Tamron 18-270mm lens, a macro lens, a sigma 35mm art lens, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 l series lens along with a nd filter for my Tamron lens.

Feedback

Make sure that you go with an experienced game ranger it makes a massive difference. They know where to find the animals and how to track them. Also make sure that you know your camera because you will have a limited time to get all the photos that you want, you need to know your camera and the correct settings in order to get the shot that you want.
