Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a resort on the red sea near Marsa Alam Egypt, looking east.

Time

I had arrived at the resort in the early afternoon, booked in and dropped my bags in my room. When I opened the door to the balcony the sound of the sea drew my gaze to the view in the photo.

Lighting

What was really interesting about the lighting for this shot, was how the scene was created by the position of the sun. Later during my stay I observed that there was less layering in the view during early morning or late afternoon. The shadows from the sun added to the definition of colours.

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D7000 & kit lens 18-105mm, handheld.

Inspiration

The architecture, is was just stunning. Everything lined up for a great shot.

Editing

Yes, I used the Nikon software View NX2, with a little bit of sharpening & contrast added. Also a slight crop to perfect the shot in the end.

In my camera bag

Normally I have the D7000 with the 18-105 kit lens and a 11-16mm Tokina for landscapes.

Feedback

When you are around architecture, look for that angle that just catches your eye. You could be busy working and something just pops at you. Take 5 minutes and take some shots.
