Location
This shot was taken on Schoenig Ranch in Honey Grove, TX. The guys had been working cows for two days. They are all friends of mine. I chose that day to take photos instead of helping.Time
This was taken mid to late afternoon. The shadows are in a position so as to not interfere with the guys standing next to each other. Each detail of each cowboy is easily seen and not hidden by any shadows.Lighting
Yes, this was taken in bright daylight, but that also allowed for the true colors of the chaps, the boots and the jeans to be seen. No early morning or early evening tints to deal with.Equipment
An older Nikon D50 was used for this shot along an older Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens. It was all I had.Inspiration
To be honest, I was tired of seeing of the the cowgirl shots that have been taken throughout the years for the guys to look at, so, being female myself, I decided to take this one. I loved that fact they they are all wearing chaps and coincidentally enough, they all stood almost exactly the same. I did not ask them to do that!Editing
I did use Topaz Labs Adjust on this shot.In my camera bag
My bad now carries a Nikon D7100, Nikon 70-200 f2.8 vrii, Nikon 35mm f1.8, and a Nikon 12-24 f4.Feedback
In my opinion, the candid shots always turn out the best. It seems to me to show more of the natural state of the human instead of asking them to pose. With these guys, it was easy because they didn't have to try and pose for the camera.
