Location
I took this photo in a wasteland just 5 minutes away from my house.Time
You may not see it in the picture but it was a very late sunset, the naked eye could barely see the reddish horizon. Due to long exposure I was able to capture what was already an "invisible sunset"Lighting
If you want to take such exposures you should consider getting far from artificial light (cars, lightposts..etc). If you don't want buildings or trees to stand out you should go to a wide field far from the city. The dimmest artificial light can tint your shoot in a frustrating way, keeping you away from controlling every parameter and being able to use your own light to approach the subject as you wish.Equipment
-I used a very simple led torch to draw the wings and light up my face for a couple of seconds. -DSLR: Nikon d5200 -Lens: Nikkor 18-105 -Tripod: crappy but very light tripod for 5$ -InfraRed Remote: This thing has saved my life a lot of times. I got it on amazon for 7$. It has more or less the same reach as a TV remote.Inspiration
I tried to illustrate my view on life since I was little. You can see a skinny short young man feeling like a hero and posing like one. He may look ridiculous to others but he doesn't mind, because he knows he has something that makes him special and different in a good way. The wings represent not only the ability to fly, but to achieve something superhuman, projected from his mind and powered by his dreams and beliefs.Editing
Frankly, I didn't need to do much of it. No photoshop. It looks unreal but the only thing I really did was bringing up the shadows and clarity. In my camera bag
The equipment I used to take this picture is the one I always have with me. Having a very low budget is good to harness every single bit of your equipmentFeedback
If you are planning to appear in your long exposure try your best to not move at all, over all if you want to light up some parts of your body (mostly your face, you don't want it to look blurry) I should also mention that the wings were drawn by a friend that stayed behind me all the time while I posed.
