Location
It was taken at a weekly car meet in Melbourne, Australia known as 'Saturday Night Live' where hundreds of cars from all over the state converge on a weekly basis for a casual meetup.Time
This was taken in the evening around 8ish. So it was dark and all light was artificial either from the surrounding carpark lights or myself.Lighting
I was very lucky with this shot that the area is almost completely floodlit with large fluros, minimizing shadows and providing clear crisp light. Unfortunately the colour of this car does appear almost black unless the lights are close to the body of the car, so the left hand side was lit up using the torch on my phone to show more definition of the beautiful body colour. A polarising filter would have helped tone down the reflections on the side but I didn't have one at that point.Equipment
This was taken on a 2008 Canon 500D with a Sigma 18-250 wide angle and a Velbon tripod with a broken leg. This meant that high angles were out of the question, though a low shot was purposely used to make the most of the distinctive lines of the car.Inspiration
Nothing much to put here, I'm a car person at heart and love capturing the machinery and atmosphere at local events such as this.Editing
This was edited in Lightroom 5 as I do all my photos, nothing too out there with the editing, dropped the highlights to reduce the flaring that comes from long exposure and light coloured surfaces such as concrete. In a later version I also removed the tree behind the car but that happened after I uploaded this version. In my camera bag
Camera, Speedlite, remote shutter release and a small arrangement of small LED based torches for light painting. Plus a tripod due to most of my work happening at night.Feedback
Lighting, lighting and more lighting. It makes the difference between a good photo and a great one with this style of shot, it allows for maximum sharpness and providing your composition is good it should all fall into place nicely.
