Location
This picture was taken in Felgueiras lighthouse, in the city of Porto in northern Portugal.Time
This place is probably one of my favorite places in northern Portugal. I go there regularly to practice and experiment new techniques. This specific picture was taken on 04/09/2015 by 7:18pm.Lighting
This day in particular, all the perfect conditions were combined to take this picture. The clouds and the golden light created a soft light against the white contrast from the clouds, also with the red from the sun behind the clouds.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D7100, with an nikon 18-140 DX VR, one tripod (triopo C258) and ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control.Inspiration
What inspired me to take this picture was knowing that the sky would be full of clouds together with the high tide in the ocean. I thought immediately about the lighthouse as the perfect place to take this picture. After I added the ocean and the clouds and I tried to create the best scenario with movement between the waves and the clouds.Editing
I always shoot in raw and in post I only use Adobe Lightroom. In this specific picture, it had a basic treatment on contrast, exposure, white balance, B&W, lens correction and noise reduction. In my camera bag
The first is my camera Nikon D7100 and 2 lens Nikon 18-140 DX VR and Tamron SP 70-300mm, two baterry and two ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control. I have a camera clean kit and a plastic bags for protection the rain. Secondary materials I use notebook for notes and two flashlights.Feedback
An advice I can give about this type of picture is to first make a research at home about a place that might interest you and then make sure you choose the right day and time to take the picture. Compare with previous pictures from other photographers in the same place and in different times of the year can be a good method. Using websites such as photoephemeris.com and weather forecasts. When you’re in the place to take the picture, the most important is to test several frameworks, different focal depths and speeds. Never give up, because the nature factor in these pictures changes constantly. In one day you can have the perfect picture and in the next day the conditions can be totally different.
