Location
This photo was taken in Saint John, NB Canada. In our beautiful park called Rockwood Park.Time
This is one of my favorite shots. I took this around 5 pm as the sun was starting to settle above the tree line. There was no wind that day and everything was peaceful. One of the beauties of nature when everything is calm.Lighting
The sun was starting to go down and reaching the top of the trees, the light was bouncing off the clouds and lighting up the water and trees giving a sun kissed glow.Equipment
I used a Nikon D5200 with a Nikon 18mm-300mm VR lense to capture this shot. I took it hand held at minimum focal length to get the most of this beautiful landscape. This image was also bracketed 2 stops to create the HDR image you see. Aperture: f/11 ISO: 100 Exposure: 1/20 Focal Length: 18/1Inspiration
I love going for hikes and walks in trails and woods, you never know what is around the next bend. From wonderful wildlife to scenery you would never see in urban areas. Nature and landscapes inspire me, there is nothing more beautiful than the world we live in. If you truly sit back and look at things in a different perspective any thing becomes something of beauty.Editing
This image was post edited in light room and Photomatix. Initially the bracketed images are imported into Photomatix to align and merge the photos, I rarely do much editing in that application. Once the images are combined I import them into Lightroom and this is where all the magic happens. As with any image I always make sure to check the histogram for over all lightness and darkness, and adjust accordingly. Next I add some clarity, as to make sure not to over do it. Then is the color, this is where it can make or break an image. You need to make sure your colors are not over saturated and as close to natural as you can get them!In my camera bag
In my bag I always have my handy 35mm Prime, extra batteries and a backup memory card. There is nothing worse than getting to a location to find out you forgot to charge the battery in the camera, and not have an extra! Also with the memory card, I have had this happen before that the memory card I am using just dies, and all the shots you took, and want to take are gone. Also in my bag I have my chargers, my tripod, a flash 2 additional lenses 18mm-55mm and a 55mm-200mm. However my go to lens is the 18mm-300mm VR.Feedback
Patience and persistence are the keys to success, don't go out shooting and expect to get the shot the first picture you take. It takes hundreds of photos to get the one that's just right sometimes. Don't be afraid to take risks when shooting, trying different angles, settings, and even times of year can be the difference between a good image and an amazing image. Be prepared, when you go out scouting locations make sure you have all the gear you need to get the job done, and most of all have fun, this is in fact why we are photographers, because we love it!
