Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on my last trip to Vietnam. Me and my family visited Ho Chi Minh city. while walking around the church I saw many brides and grooms and many photographers who took photographs for the happy couples. But unlike most of the brides there was this bride, who looked like having one of her worst days.

Time

The photo was taken at the afternoon. I don't remember the exact time. When photogrpahed i remember a nice sun light which abled me to pick a fast enough shutter speed in order to freeze the action.

Lighting

All the lightning in this photo is a naturall sun light. This photo was pictured at the left side of the church (the church was on the right side of the bride), and the sun light which hit the church walls bounced on the right cheek of the bride.

Equipment

I took this photo using my beloved Nikon D80. I used my Tamron Di II 18-270 lens. I also used a Hoya filter on my lens

Inspiration

As walking near the church I saw all the couples being photographed before their weddings. To picture those couples seemed pretty obvious, easy and boring to me. So instead, I searched for the diffrent bride and the diffrent groom. This bride seemed pretty unusuall on her behavior.

Editing

I really like post-procesing. I think that during post-process the photographer brings his point of view into the photo. My perspective is that the correction needs to keep the scene originality. For post-processing this image I used lightroom program. I made it a bit brighter, more sharp, i added some clarity and contrasts to the photo. I also opened some shadows.

In my camera bag

In my bag I normally carry my Nikon D80, a Tamron Di II 18-270 lens. On my lens there is a Hoya filter. Beacuse I often go photographing near the sea and on long trips i have a rain cover for the camera. As i learned it is allways better to have more than less. I allways carry a spare rechargable battery, some extra SD cards. For shooting parties, sports and night scenes i allways carry a Jyc remote control, a Sb 700 flash and a tripod which i bought in this trip to Vietnam.

Feedback

Many many people around the world are shooting weddings, brides and grooms, some of those photos are very very good. In order to shoot special photos, I suggest all to add their own perspactive and creativity, both are abilities which every photographer has and should develope. Another advice I have is to allways check the sourronding. Everyting is changing very fast when photographing. So you shall allways look around and feel the scene and think how you can improve your photo. What can you add which will make the photo something magical, something new. Use your instincts!
