Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my parent's home in Central Pennsylvania. I didn't have time to grab my camera, so I whipped out my cell phone to capture my son's excitement as it was happening.

Time

The photo was taken late afternoon, after picking up my son from daycare. We would always make a trip to see his grandparents before heading home.

Lighting

I love natural light. That time of day under the trees in their back yard - perfect.

Equipment

This photo was taken 2 years ago with my iPhone. Now that I have grown more as a self-taught nature photographer, I have perfected my editing skills. I may have done things differently, but this is just a raw shot taken with my phone.

Inspiration

I combined two of my favorite things - bugs, and my son - into one photo. Teaching him about nature has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Seeing him light up over a little lady bug and to be able to capture the awe in his eyes - it gets me every time.

Editing

I am an amateur and honestly, I probably slapped an Instagram filter on this and called it a day.

In my camera bag

I use a Nikon P530 Coolpix and an old iPhone 5s. I am a single parent who works full time and any free time I have, I love to take pictures. I find it to be very relaxing and therapeutic. I have learned a lot from trial and error (a lot of error) and I enjoy sharing my work. I'm always interested in constructive feedback and tips on how to improve.

Feedback

I love macro shots like this - insects are so detailed when you take a closer look. A nice shady spot on a bright, summer day is what I've found to work the best. It doesn't hurt to have a little curious sidekick with you who enjoys it just as much as you do.
