Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Scipio, Utah.

Time

The photo was taken in mid-morning as this was a spur of the moment road trip.

Lighting

The sun was already over the mountain at this point and the sin was perfect for bringing out the details of everything even the rust.

Equipment

Nikon D5100 with the kit lens 18-55

Inspiration

My inspiration was taking time to see the past in the present. Most keepsakes and old building are being torn down. Relics are no long being passed down through families and land is being sold. I have traveled to this town many times and each time it's a little bit different. You just never know when the current road trip will be the last time you see something amazing. One day it will be replaced my the future. It's up to us as photographers to freeze good memories and relics in time.

Editing

I used my old Nik software to pull out the fine details. I added a touch of detail extractor and contrast to the photo.

In my camera bag

Nikon D7200, lens 18-140, 50 , and my two ND filters ND2 and ND4

Feedback

Time of day in this area of the town is important. Early morning is best, early evening is ok but may be shadowed. It is on the side of the road and it can get busy as it is one of the main roads that take you to the freeway entrance and exit for the town.
