Behind The Lens

Location

Taken on a beautiful morning in Simonstown, Capetown walking along the rocks I noticed how the waves were splashing up against these big rocks with the warm glow of the sun hitting them so beautifully.

Time

Taken in the early morning around 6am for the Sunrise which rises along the sea in South Africa.

Lighting

The light was even more golden this morning and glowing along the sea. The warm orange sky combined with the silhouettes of the boulders/rocks made the light even more magical. When I was standing in between the two rocks I noticed how the sun was flaring through my camera which I wanted to capture with the waves splashing against the rocks in the golden light.

Equipment

Canon 6D Canon 25-105mm F5.6 lens Neutral Density Filter x2

Inspiration

Just walking around the rocks on the beach and finding that "magic" spot and seeing how the were waves splashing up against them and how the light was glowing on the rocks as the sea pulled back was beautiful. That warm sunrise glow and being on beach really inspires me.

Editing

Just a little bit of brightness and saturation. It didn't need anything!

In my camera bag

Canon EOS 6D Canon 25-105 mm F5.6 Canon 50mm F1.8 x2 Camera Extra Batteries x2 16GB SD Memory Card Yongnuo Flash

Feedback

Walking around and trying to find "hidden" spots or look in between rocks for silhouettes or reflections is the best. Watching the waves and see how they splash against the rocks at interesting angles or what the light is doing on the rock weather its creating long shadows or glowing on different textures of the rock. Look for ways to frame your picture with what's around you and don't be afraid to capture the suns natural "flares" in the camera they can turn out amazing!
