Fallow Deer.
They are part of the deer family and of average size (length 130-150 cm, height at the shoulder 110 cm) and can weigh up to 100 kg. Their antlers are flat, have a white spotted coat (but sometimes brown or black) and black and white spots on their bottom. The female does not carry antlers. This species come from the East of the Mediterranean Basin and from North Africa but has established from the Antiquity all around the Mediterranean area. The classic dwelling of fallow deer is the open hardwood forest. Males are solitary and do not mix with females before the mating season, which happens in October-November. The gestation period lasts 8 months. The antlers reach their developmental peak in September and fall in May.
