Plane "Smoke" trails

I was just out for a walk an happened to have my camera with me in this park in Pennsylvania when I noticed weird patterns in the sky. They were unusual in that they were not the typical white "smoke-trails" of airplanes. I quickly shot some images, to be combined in this panoramic at home, using Photoshop (no other editing). When I watched the news that night, I heard that this phenomenon is in fact created by planes, but it has a twist. The sun shone down through the clouds, thus casting a shadow on them. Very weird and wonderfully magical... The exposure could have been better in the sun's corner but I was really so excited that none of the shots that were used for this panoramic collage showed any definition there. These are moments that I miss working with film...
