Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at my home where i installed a little studio

Time

Was in the afternoon

Lighting

For this photo i use 2 light . I used an Elinchrom Octabox (1meter) camera right for the upper body and a Beauty dish from Elinchrom camera left for the lower body (1.5 stop down)

Equipment

Here is the equipment : Camera : Nikon D800E Lens : Nikon AFS 85mm 1.8G Strobe : 2 Elinchrom Dlite RX4 Diffuser : One Elinchrom octabox 1 meter with the diffuser and a 44cm Elinchrom Beauty Dish with the diffuser Bakground : a neutral grey seamless background

Inspiration

I looked at the model during the shooting when i did some full length shot and when i saw the face and the symmetry i moved forward to take this portrait

Editing

Yea i first did a Raw treatment and i moved after in Photoshop. In the raw state i mostly correct white balance highlight and shadow. In Photoshop i did frequency separation to remove spot problem and after Dodge and burn step and a little bit of liquify. With liquify step try to stay natural and slightly enhance the face of the model. Sometimes i do my liquify in 4 steps. During the Dodge and Burn step all my image are turned into black and white and sometimes i decide to keep an image Black and White during this step. That what happened here.

In my camera bag

For outdoor shooting i have just 2 lens a Sigma 50mm ART 1.4 and my favorite lens my Nikon 85mm 1.8G maybe i will go for the 1.4 but for the price and quality the 1.8G is an awesome lens and i have my camera Nikon D800E with the grip. I like to move free without many things like a reflector flash ... That let me to stay focus in the scene For studio i have my Sekonic light meter in my bag that i rarely use outdoor just when i have some bad light issue

Feedback

To realize this kind of portrait the most important is the model. The way she look at the public have to be intense. Models with great cheekbones is helping in this kind of portrait You also have to try to be symmetric in the way you frame the shot. A symmetric dress can help and enhanced the output You can do this kind of shot with a classic clamshell configuration.
