Location
This photo was taken in my back yard, with a little attentiveness there is always something curious and beautiful to be found in even the smallest patches of nature.Time
Early in the morning.Lighting
The beetle was sitting in a very leafy tree that obscured the natural light plus it was a bit windy so I used flash to get a fast enough shutter speed.Equipment
Pentax K-50 with a Sigma 70-300mm lens.Inspiration
I was actually doing something else when I spotted this striking beetle, it was the first time I had seen this particular species so I went and got my camera and took a few shots. Sadly that was my first and (as of now) only sighting of this particular longhorn.Editing
Nothing significant.In my camera bag
I'm operating on a tight budget so I have my Pentax K-50 with a Sigma 70-300mm APO DG macro attached. The Sigma is a nice versatile lens for wildlife with a 1:2 reproduction ratio that's good for macro work while at the same time the 300mm reach allows me to capture birds and other far off subjects. it also makes for a reasonably light setup so it's easy to carry while trekking.Feedback
Always have your eyes open and be on the lookout, even in familiar places you can spot new subjects. On the other hand just because something is common doesn't mean that it has no value as a photographic subject. What is ordinary and commonplace to you may be exceedingly exotic to your viewers.
