This is one of my favourite shots from a collection taken one sunny Autumn afternoon in Thornton's Park, Northampton.Time
It was a Sunday afternoon, mid October. I love the colours of Autumn and a new camera was the perfect excuse to head out and try to capture my favourite time of year. I walked the length of the park, constantly looking at the trees, shadows and colours to find the best shots I could.Lighting
The clocks hadn't yet changed so we were still on Summer Time but the sun was lower in the sky giving great shadows and contrasts. I took almost a hundred shots that afternoon but this has always been one of my firm favourites.Equipment
I was on a limited budget at the time but had just picked up a compact with a decent zoom but more importantly with full manual controls (Samsung WB690) as I wanted to move away from point and shoot automatic modes.Inspiration
I liked this angle because of the sense of depth with the foreground almost silhouetted but the richness of Autumn colour visible beyond.Editing
I have used post-processing on occasions but love the challenge of getting a great shot 'as taken'In my camera bag
There's a saying that the best camera you have is the one in your hand and I've always kept that in mind, trying to capture the best shot I can even when I've only got my phone with me (which is often used for the more spontaneous shots) but my regular camera at the moment is the Lumix FZ-72Feedback
It sounds basic but keep your eyes open! Look around you and notice lighting factors, especially shadows. Think about the result you want to achieve and take into account things you can''t control, like fading light at the end of the day (and be prepared to do some walking...)
