Location
This photo was taken at Eilean Donan Castle near the village of Dornie in Scotland.Time
This is one of my favorite memories of Scotland. We had just left the Isle of Skye that morning and headed back to the mainland. The sun was out, there were barely any clouds, and the weather was gorgeous! We wanted to make this stop at Eilean Donan before we headed toward Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle.Lighting
The sun and skies were perfect for this picture. With the sun nearing midday, it was the only light I needed to capture the magnificent colors surrounding Eilean Donan.Equipment
I took this with my Nikon D40x, using my 55mm lens.Inspiration
I have always been fascinated with castles, and Eilean Donan did not disappoint. At this distance, with the colors depicting the levels of the tide, it was so inspiring! The history behind this castle is phenomenal!Editing
I really did not have to do much post-processing here. I adjusted the vibrancy just a tad, and that was it!In my camera bag
I never leave without my D40x, my 3300 (both Nikon) my Nikon 55 mm lens, Nikon 50mm fixed lens, and my Sigma 300mm zoom lens.Feedback
Find a location that has meaning for you, or that inspires you. If you don't think it's beautiful, or scary, or magnificent, or saddening, how do you expect your viewers to see it in your photography? Be patient. This was my 2nd trip to Eilean Donan. The first time we visited, it was later in the evening, the lighting wasn't right, and the tide was higher. I took pictures at the first visit, but they did not show what I felt when standing there as this picture does. As I was looking at the castle, I could see the history within the walls and the bridge. The way it stood out against the sky made my hyper-aware of how much the castle has seen in its time, and how magnificent its stories were. My hope with this shot, was to have others see it and respect its history and it's beauty.
