Location
This image was taken in Reedyville Tennessee at the old Reediville mansion. We were allowed to take furniture from different rooms to stage the scene.Time
All of the staging was done the day before the shoot. We started around 8am with makeup and hair design then, went on to clothing. In all makeup and clothing took about 4 hours so, that put us at 12pm to start the actual shoot.Lighting
For lighting we used 1 Einstein e640 equipped with a beauty dish. We socked the beauty dish and added a 10 degree grid to produce a rapid light fall off.Equipment
I like to shoot most fashion from a low angle so a tripod was out of the question. This image was shot with the Canon 5D mk-II equipped with the Canon $99.00 50mm 1.8 prime. A surprisingly excellent lens even at such a low price. I currently shoot with the Canon 5D mk-III.Inspiration
I'm a big fan of one of the world's top fashion photographers, Melissa Roxwell. So, her work inspired me for this shoot.Editing
I always try and get everything right in camera. This saves a lot of time in post. Most of my post consists of blemish removal and skin smoothing which is an art in itself. In my camera bag
Wow! I don't know where to begin with this one. Any time I prepare for a shoot I usually have a mini van full of equipment. Everything from lighting to my camera. My entire studio goes out in the field with me.Feedback
Yes, learn lighting. Study everything you can about it. Practice it daily. When you think you know everything there is to know about lighting, study it and practice it more. I make it a point to learn something new about my craft everyday. If you ever get to a point in your career that you think you know everything about photography then you should just give it up. Why? Because there will always be somebody out there better than you are.
