The photo was taken in a pop -up studio in my home in Mexico City. I wanted to take an advantage of plenty of natural light and capture the luminosity that this room had in mornings.Time
This photo was taken in morning , around 10 pm. The sun would only shine in this space from 8:30-11am during this time of year so we had good few hours to play around with natural lighting and to try different angles and ideas.Lighting
I wanted to achieve natural , laissez-fair feel for the photo. I was friends with my model and I wanted to transit her coy and cheerful personality by recreating natural environment around her where she would be the protagonist and my camera observers . As I shot against the natural light, I had to use external flash to compensate the underexposure. I usually shoot with natural lighting so this was a new experience for me. The white transparent full-length curtains worked as a natural filter for light.Equipment
I used Nikon7100, SB-700 Speed light, and 50mm Nikon lens 1.2f , tripod and some black wrap.Inspiration
We worked together on this shoot, my model and I, and it was the symbiosis of two ideas, - I wanted to take an advantage of the marvellous t light Mexico offers all year round to create atmosphere for my photo where as my model was looking for a relaxed but fashion photography inspired photo shoot.Editing
I used speed light on manual without flash meter which was something that I wanted to experiment with but it was admittedly a bit of a guessing game as well so it resulted in this particular photo being underexposed. I had to process to a clear up the noise in the photo without making model´s skin looking plastic. I used Camera Raw and Photoshop CS6.In my camera bag
My Nikon camera, black wrap and Tamran polaroid filters for my lenses. I usually have one telephoto lens and Nikon 50mm lens which I absolutely love.Feedback
Using external flashes natural light drives a greater control so definitely I would recommend it as a stepping stone for advancing your skills and to gets good grip how mixed source lighting works.
