Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the front window in my living room overlooking the woods. Bubbie loves to watch out the window for deer and squirrels and for his friends, the angus cattle, in the field next door. Here he was perched on a table between chairs, his favorite viewing spot.

Time

This was taken in the early evening with the light filtering through the trees in the front yard.

Lighting

I loved the way the light behind Bubbie fell on his face. It gave his face a look of ancient wisdom. Almost all dogs have that ancient wisdom.

Equipment

I use a Canon EOS Rebel T5. My usual lens is 18-55mm lens.

Inspiration

I am inspired by my dogs. I love to try to capture what I refer to as their "essence" in a photo. It is what you see in their eyes and on their face when they are comfortable and feel safe and their soul shines through.

Editing

I cropped the background down a little and added the shading around the edges. I use Picasa frequently since it is quick and easy.

In my camera bag

I am an amateur photographer in every sense. I have two Canon bodies I use, an XS1 and a T5. I have a 50mm lens, my 18-55mm lens, a wide angle lens and a 300mm lens. I usually have both cameras with me so I don't have to stop to switch lenses, I just grab the other camera. I always have an extra charged battery or two for each. I also have my tripod close at hand though I think that my most memorable photos were just spur of the moment captures.

Feedback

I love to photograph my dogs, or any dogs, but as anyone who has ever tried to get that great capture of a dog or any animal knows, it is not always easy. You have to keep your camera close at hand so you are always ready and you will take a lot of not so great ones before that one that makes your heart say "Wow, that is so ^pets name^" pops up on your camera. So perseverance is key!
