Behind The Lens

Location

It was at my grandmother's home, it was she and it was me. I was looking at it, her sewing machine, which is about 50 years old!

Time

After noon, the brilliant sunlight from the window was calling me to take a shot.

Lighting

I just made use of the natural light of that day. It helped me to convey the concept, because the light which is coming from the window, already tells us about the architecture of the home, and the possible moments one can experience sitting a day in that room. Just imagine that every thing sounds ancient and old, smelling good, and reminding of all traditions.

Equipment

I had a canon powershot G12 which was really valuable to me, though I lost that camera!

Inspiration

my grandmother has had a really hard life, losing her mother at the age of 6 and her father at the age of 12, he was in charge of three of her brothers, and you know, former generations are full of these destinies. I just thought of the years she was awake all over the night, sewing dresses to make a living and bringing up my mother, my aunt and my uncle. It is always the pains which make great people. I thought there should be something which remains from her and it should be a symbolic stuff and sufficiently brief, something able of telling stories without being verbose or talkative, just like a single shot.

Editing

I tried to sharpen the photo, and manipulated the colors to be a little bit warmer. I think warm colors give me a sense of support.

In my camera bag

The first thing I always pack is my compact camera, because it matters not the lose any valuable scene, so I think having a compact camera with me helps me be more confident, at the same time, I use more professional camera when I have decided to go somewhere and take photos with some plan in advance.

Feedback

Just let your heart decide, but you should have a trained heart, I mean you should overcome the technical challenges of photography and post processing of the images, and after achieving technical mastery, it is all about your heart which makes your insight toward the world, so trust it, let it decide what is valuable of being captured and survive among millions of moment which are born and die every single day.
