The photo was taken in St Paul De Vance, near Nice, one of the oldest medievel towns on the French RivieraTime
This was taken at 6 am on a cold November morning. We had caught the early bus from Nice and walked around this ancient town, almost completely alone, hours before the hordes of tourists would arriveLighting
I wanted to draw the viewer into the mood this alleyway created, and I think the light from the lantern helps draws you inEquipment
Canon 600D. Hand held photo at 1/50 sec with an ISO of 1600. No flashInspiration
I am always looking for quiet spots away from the crowds, and this lane, normally crowded with throngs of people took me back to another time, as did the whole town. Seeing this ancient place early morning, with good light (the sun was just rising), and no people around, allows the viewer to experience some of the atmosphere St Paul exudesEditing
Surprisingly little. Slight increase in clarity, reduction of highlights and slight increase in Exposure (+20)In my camera bag
My Canon camera with 55mm; 200mm; and wide angle lenses. I often will take my tripod, but not on this occasion (perhaps one regret that day)Feedback
Early morning rise, particularly when you know there will be throngs of people arriving during the day. This town was so quiet and peaceful and I was left in peace to take what pictures I wanted
