Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was clicked at Chamundi Hills, near Mysore, Karnataka, India. There is a temple dedicated to Goddess Chamundi on the hill and this young man was close to the temple.

Time

Chamundi Hill is situated to the South of Mysore and it is a lovely location at dusk as you watch the sunset and the city of Mysore lights up. It is an experience I enjoy every time I visit Mysore. This picture was clicked on one such evening visit.

Lighting

The young man featured in the picture is a student and was dressed up as Lord Hanuman, the monkey God. He was seeking help to buy stationery and books for school and after I contributed to his cause, I asked him to pose as Lord Hanuman and I quickly snapped up a few shots.

Equipment

I was in my car, driving up the hill and I was carrying my basic kit of a Nikon D5300 and a Nikkor 18-55 Lens. The light was good enough to not need a flash.

Inspiration

I was touched by this young man's troubles. I also appreciated that instead of begging on the streets or finding some other way to get some money, he took the trouble to get himself into the costume so that visitors to the temple may help him. In addition, I was touched by his eagerness to continue his studies. So, this click was interesting at multiple levels.

Editing

I don't really remember now, but I guess I must have gently touched up the colour and also sharpened the image.

In my camera bag

I carry a basic kit of a Nikon D5300, with a Nikkor 18-55mm lens. I have added a UV filter to the lens. I always carry the battery charger and 3 data cards of 4GB each. I also carry a soft cloth for cleaning purposes.

Feedback

I am too much of an amateur to actually give advice.
