In December 1996, Klemens departed Dutch Harbor Leewarden, bound for Portimão. On the night of 12 December, with good weather and calm seas, the ship ran aground near the "Stone of Patacho", right next to the waste waters of Vila Nova de Milfontes Station. The reasons for success seem to be related to the inability of the four crew members, since none possessed the necessary qualifications for navigation on the high seas.
