This photo was taken during a dog walk along the River Beauly in the Highlands of Scotland. In fact most of my photos tend to be taken during dog walks and therefore if you look hard enough there is quite often a pooch running about in the shot somewhere. When you work full time you have to combine your hobbies where you can to fit them all in.Time
There aren't many blue sky and sunshine days up here so when we get one we drop everything and get out in it. This was one of those days in mid November. It was a walk we had never done before and we got lost. This was around mid afternoon soon after finding the river again.Lighting
It was one of the days where the light was juuuust right.Equipment
I'm actually quite short and I was looking around trying to find a log or a stone to stand on to get the composition right. I do own a tripod but had left it at home that day. I have a Canon EOS 350D which I usually take on dog walks because it's much lighter. But that day I took my new Canon EOS 7D. I'm an amateur and I know that must sound like a contradiction. When I wanted to upgrade I told my other half that I wanted the latest Canon for my anniversary present. Guess what I got!!! It has a Canon 18 to 135mm IS lens.Inspiration
That particular day I was taking snaps of the dogs with the new 7D and trying to get to know where everything was. But when we came around the corner and I saw this scene I just had to spend some time taking it in and trying to get the right angle.Editing
Once home I did tweak the saturation just a tiny wee bit. So little you can barely tell.In my camera bag
In my bag, a Lowepro Slingshot, I have the Canon EOS 7D with a Canon 18 to 135mm IS lens and a skylight filter for protection. That's it at this stage, as I said I'm just an amateur. Oh I do have have a HOYA Polarizing Filter, but I confess I have not used it yet.Feedback
Advice for others !! Don't ask me anything technical, as I'm still learning. But what I have learned is, it's not all about equipment. Yes it's great to have and I hope to build on my meager supplies as time passes. Maybe another anniversary windfall !! But equipment doesn't give you a good eye for colour or composition. There's so much you can do with just a camera. So if you're interested in photography, just get out there and try. It's all about having fun
